UNDISCOVERED UTRECHT

So you think you’ve experienced Holland when you’ve been to Amsterdam… Come again? Because it’s in undiscovered Utrecht that the Dutch culture really takes centre stage. Here’s the lowdown on Holland’s highlight…

Yes, it’s got canals. With cool cafes lining their unique two-levelled sidewalks.
Yes, it’s got loads of friendly locals on bikes. For much of the centre is free of cars.
And yes, it also has BUNK. At just 400m from the country’s most central Central Station, we’ve converted a former church into the perfect HQ for your next urban adventure.

BUNK in Utrecht

de dom

GET HIGH, NOT LOST

Utrecht doesn’t have a Dam square but something called the Dom Tower. The Dom is a Medieval tower that always serves as an orientation point. Or as a scenic lookout if you conquer its 465 stairs. Get high, without getting lost.

BUNK Utrecht is only a 30-minute train ride away from one of the largest airports in the world: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. In Utrecht, you’re right on the crossroads of the Netherlands and the rest of the world.

EAT & DRINK

Our restaurant is the place to just be and hang out, all day. After breakfast it becomes a pleasant workspace and cosy meeting place. After dinner, it hosts a diverse cultural programme organized through our Liberales Foundation.

We’ve singled out the best local foods for its affordable menu. And we welcome everyone in for a chat, a drink, or a meal. Our other communal spaces have been designed for spontaneous socializing and laid-back fun. Who do you want to meet? Other travellers, interesting locals or good old Mr. Sandman?

Westerkerk Utrecht Gebruiken bijgesneden, exploring Utrecht

A LONG HISTORY, IN SHORT

BUNK Utrecht houses in a monumental church that we have re-designed to meet the standards of today’s travellers and involved locals. The church has its own history, dating back over a century. For now, we’ll give you the short version.

Around Utrecht’s Dom Tower there used to be churches to the north, the west, the east and the south. Literally! The Westerkerk was one of four Reformed Protestant churches that the city named after a cardinal direction. The Westerkerk opened in 1893. And as late as January 2018 it was the last of these churches to hold a holy mass.

When its doors reopen as BUNK Utrecht, we’ll make sure its world-renowned Quellhorst-organ keeps on playing. But instead of early Sunday morning masses we’ll organize evening concerts. Soon, even night owls can fully appreciate the massive sound of this majestic instrument, which has been officially recognized as National Heritage.
